"You think you are a funny one, aren't you, Leading Rate William?" Sun tried to sound stern. But, despite her, still grumpy, mood her words did not come across a warningly as she had intended. There was something disarming about this young man's charm. Off duty, after a drink or two, she would have been perfectly fine with his commentary. But right now, she was unsure what to make of it. "If I didn't know it any better, I'd say you are flirting with a married woman, who also happens to be an officer. Shame on you."

Had she known him to be Catholic, she had totally recommended her old Jesuit confessor from high school to him now. On a good day, he would have gotten off with five rosaries and a lecture on improper flirtation. On a bad one, he would have been encouraged to spend the next weekend grounded, doing spiritual exercises to repent for his mistake. The mere idea made Sun smirk, but she bit back the comment. It would probably not even make sense, unless you had first-hand experience with these kinds of things. Clearing her throat she returned her attention to the UAV.

"By the way, I had not even thought of bow and arrow", she stated while looking over his shoulder at the downed drone. "It's possible, but unlikely. I was thinking more of branches, rocks, giant insects, drunk hummingbirds; or the other usual stuff you'd find off-planet."

Thoughtfully, she reached over to run a hand along the one severed wing. "All I expect is that you get the UAV patched up enough to run a diagnostic. The telemetry and software readouts we have came back completely inconclusive. So I don't see a point in tinkering with it right now. I'd only get more upset over it. And believe me, you would not want that..."

It was not really a threat, but she hoped Williams got the message. By now, he had seen grumpy, but she wondered if he could handle the next level.

"No Major, not funny at all," he replied, glancing back over his shoulder at her and smiling brightly. His smile always got him either into trouble or out of trouble, it depended on who he was talking to at the time and the fact he knew of the Major's reputation it was more than likely going to land in him in a spot of hot water at one point. "No Major, not remotely flirting with a married officer, at all, that would be completely against regulations, not to mention against my own personnel ethical feelings."

It was all a completely load of crap, he would never in a million years go out and sleep with a married woman (he strongly disagreed with cheating of any kind), but a little flirting never hurt anybody. Besides, there was no way he was going to act upon such a thing, like the Major had said she was his superior and married, but he could tell she'd had a bad enough day with the crash landing of the currently crumpled up UAV in front of him. So if flirting meant he could at least make her smile, and it also made him feel good in the process as well, well then he wasn't going to stop doing it.

Turning back to the UAV, Caleb started to make the already small hole a bit bigger, he needed to be able to get his hands inside the craft without actually damaging his hands or the parts he was trying to fix.

"See that's the thing Major, no one ever considers the bow and arrow, one day in the future am sure we'll come across a really advanced civilization that got that way purely with the bow and arrow." He said, completely sort of ignoring what she was doing behind him, although he did pause in what he was doing for a moment. "Drunk hummingbirds? That is so going on my list of weird things I want to see when I go off world now, thank you Major." He couldn't help laughing a little at the picture that painted, hummingbirds were normally quite fast anyway so he could just imagine what a half drunk one would look like.

"I can't make no promises Major but I will certainly give it my best shot to get the thing at least working for you, so you can see what made it fall out of the sky." He said, trying to be as reassuring as possible.

The Navyman was a cheeky one for sure. And, it was hard for Sun not to return the smile. But, today was definitely not a good day to elicit a smile from her. Yet, for him, her cynically mentioned hummingbirds had done the trick. "Seriously, drunk hummingbirds do happen on Earth, too. And they're not to be underestimated. Back in Florida, on the airfield, we had one of those nearly bringing down a jet because it didn't look where it was flying. They'd make an awesome weapon if you ask me."

Thoughtfully, she ran her hand over some of the undone screws and wires lying around, hoping to find whatever kind of clue about the UAV's malfunctions. But it was a pointless endeavor. She decided to leave it to Williams. He was the technician with an idea about these things. And he seemed to have a fair one.

"Thank you for your effort, Leading Rate. I think you're the first competent person I've met all day..." And it had been a long one already, despite it being only about 1100 hours by now. Liam making a fuss about being woken at 0600 had not helped this sentiment either. But her little one had been less of a pain than some of those clueless sergeants in the briefing room.

Yet Williams paid her back by trying to help her out with this damned UAV. Sun watched him work away on the drone's main body. "You know, if this was an off-duty meeting, I'd probably buy you a drink for it..." she muttered, not sure if she should have said it out loud. After all, they were not off-duty. This was strictly business. "By the way, what are you just trying to fix?" she inquired, more out of curiosity than anything else.

As he twisted more components back inside the UAV, he replied to the Majors comment about hummingbirds, "Can't really see them becoming the new side arms, but you know what, am up for finding some drunk birds and trying that out." He wasn't a weapons specialist for nothing, he usually could make most weapons work when they shouldn't, he could also make a weapon out of most bits laying around. Heck half the contents of the UAV that was strewn across the floor, yeah he could make something with that.

"A drink, eh Major, now who's trying to proposition who?" Caleb said, offering her another smile as he took his eyes off the broken UAV for a moment to give her a light-hearted look. He knew by the looks of her when she'd stopped him, that the day had been stressful, he knew of her reputation for being a bit of a 'bitch' at times, but well Caleb didn't really see that.

He had his own reputation to contend with at times, so he often didn't take much stock in other peoples reputation, he just treated people how he would want to be treated at times. That meant if he could get a smile from someone by giving them a bit of a flirt, a bit of a wink in the right direction then that would be the route he'd be taking. It didn't mean however that he didn't respect the Chain of Command, in fact he followed that more closely than some at times, it just meant that although he deferred to his superiors all the time, he saw them as actual human beings. He treated them, as people, yes even occasionally when he was getting his ass handed to him.

"It's no problem Major, I always try to help out where I can," he answered truthfully, he had at times become more handyman than weapons expert since joining. But it was still nice to be needed and wanted at times.

He pulled his hands from the machine laying in bits, as the Major asked what he was trying to fix, he was sure he had already told her in his own round about way of what he was going to attempt to do. But if the Major needed extra reassurance, or explanation, he wasn't one to tell her no.

"I am attempting to make sure none of the wires are damaged on the inside, before I start putting bits back together," he explained, "I know you said not to worry about the computer side of it, which completely honest, am not. But you're still gonna want to know if any of that side is damaged. So instead of trying to ram everything back inside, patch it all up, make it look all shiny to find that the computer side is damaged, thought I'd just check the wires first."
