As the SGC adheres to American ranks, each military character will be assigned their equivalent rank in the US Forces system. Below is a list of each character, their country, their armed service, their original rank and their US equivalent. This will help with creating the rank structure in the SG units. Non-military characters are all classed as civilians, and their place and rank within a team will be determined by their function and the mission runner.
Also a point of note, just because someone is a commissioned officer, it does not mean they automatically outrank a non-comm. A Sergeant Major, for example, is going to hold more authority than someone of OF-2 (Captain) rank and below. Major (OF-3) technically is of equal rank to a Sergeant Major. It is once it gets to OF-4 (Lt. Colonel and equivalent) that the top grades of the non-commissioned ranks start getting automatically outranked by the commissioned officers.
The below table is ordered by rank of current characters, in descending order. Their grades are included for reference. Where they are of equal rank, the US characters are listed first.
