Hi
Also hailing from the camp of tomboy, Mere is rarely seen without a gaggle of male cohorts and is often the first to prove to anyone who considers her 'just a girl' that she is anything but.
Always first with a joke, be it a witty observation or sarcastic comment, she is determined to be cheerful, despite the resting bitch face she was graced with.
I cant see the two of them hating each other, and it would be interesting to see them form a friendship, given that both seem to prefer the company of the dangly group.
Perhaps they've met whilst on a mission at some point?
Does she like to eat - Mere is forever in the mess hall or out in Colorado Springs sampling whatever takes her fancy.
I'd be happy to explore options

It could certainly be an interesting combination. Ruth might even come across as a bit on the naive side, at least before you get to know her, so... maybe something there?

Well, her tendency to see the best in people would get her past the quiet and implacable outer appearance of Taft, and he prefers bubbly to sarcastic. He gets enough sarcasm from officers on any given day. A tomboy would be refreshing as well, as that would be like dealing with a female soldier but without the rank worries.
He's divorced as well (twice) and they can always bond over bad memories and cups of hot chocolate (or bourbon).
I can imagine that Ruth might have initial problems about making friends with the military, partly because they are largely unknown to her. However, the fact that her old friend Jake now works at the SGC as well will certainly go some way to removing her wariness of them. She doesn't have bad memories of he marriage or her divorce, and is, in fact, still friends with her ex husband, and likely friends with all her exes, but she'd certainly listen to his woes.
