Once they had been dismissed, Mere had double timed it down to her quarters to grab her kit, before side lining it to supplies to pack a few spare med kits as instructed. She had no way of knowing what kind of injuries she and the Doc would be dealing with, but going on previous experience of battle injuries, she packed basic kits, stuff extra bandages, pain killers, and sterile wipes wherever she could fit them in her bag.

Satisfied that the load she would be hoisting was well distributed, well stocked, and not likely to hinder her movement in the case they came under fire, Mere grabbed the two extra kits she’d prepared and made her way back to the Gateroom.

A journey, which was hindered by the throng of people who were milling about in the corridor’s, wandering from one place to another, or simply stood gossiping about the lockdown.
Shoving her way through a gaggle of the science staff, Mere ignored the snarky comment that was aimed at her, instead focussing on moving through the next potential obstacle. She had to make one more pit stop for a weapon, but that was on route, and once she had the P90 secured, people moved a whole lot quicker.

Arriving, she nodded her head at the gathered group, annoyed that her delay and potential over packing had resulted in her being the last to arrive.

“Apologies for the tardiness, I bought the spare kits, stocked with extra’s, just in case” Casting her over towards the ramp, Mere spotted the MALP prepped to go, and the crates piled close by. They were travelling light, but they were going in prepared, and considering the brief that was all they could do for the moment.

"Can I assume that Docs the package? Where do you want me?"

Claire could feel the weight of scrutiny on her from Taft and Tahirah, and did her best to tough it out. While she knew she had nothing to prove as a surgeon, it would be her ability to function on the same team as Caleb that would be under examination now, and for different reasons for both Taft and Tahirah.

She did her best not to clearly enjoy the touch of Caleb's hands on her thigh as he checked her sidearm, although Claire did return the smile as he finished checking, shaking her head as he apologised. "Don't worry, you're only doing your job," she replied, the smile turning into a grin. She'd rather his hands on her thigh than Taft's. That just didn't bear thinking about.

Chuckling at Taft's comment about sticking plasters, Claire shook her head. "And there was I thinking that standard issue from the SGC was 'Frozen' these days," she retorted. "Although if you prefer 'Hello Kitty', Sarge, I'm sure that requisitioning can take it into account." Claire flashed another grin at Caleb. She was certain that sticking plasters would be the least of her worries, but that was something she refused to consider, until she knew the lay of the land.

Meredith Blake arrived with minutes to spare, and Claire offered the young woman a tight smile. "Here's hoping those are all we need," she said, her mind racing over the contents of the medical crates. If they could get away with emergency packs, it would be fantastic, but Clare had to consider the worst case scenario.

And that wasn't very pretty at all.

When the medic returned, Tahirah took one of the extra kits from her with an accepting nod. She popped open the lid and began transferring the contents into the many pockets of her vest and pants. While she knew most of the items from the basic medic training she had taken when she arrived, there were some she did not. Those the Jaffa made sure to put all in the same pocket. If either of the healers asked for something she didn't recognize, she would just empty the pocket and hope she had it. One final check to make sure all the pockets were securely closed, and she was ready.

“Of course you assume they'd be Hello Kitty ones sir,” replied Caleb, smiling, “I actually carry the Dora The Exlpora ones around, much more masculine I think.”

There was no reason not to have a little light hearted banter before one was to step through the Stargate, although Caleb was surprised that ended up being about plasters of all thing. He hadn't be able to resist responding to the Sergeants comment about plasters, Caleb wasn't one for backing down when such banter started. Of course he also couldn't help the chuckle when Claire started in about the Frozen plasters, this was what a team was meant to do before leaving. Even if the mission was a bit of a serious one, the banter relaxed people is what he thought.

He spotted Blake return, he hadn't worked with her before, he had heard her name and see her around but he hadn't actually worked with her before. He offered a smile and nod in her general direction.

"I'm a Star Wars bandaid guy myself. But I pick out the ones with the lightsabers to carry with me." He pointed Meredith to the rear flank behind Claire as the gate began to dial. "Tahirah, do your people have fictional characters for the purposes of entertainment?" The gate finished its dial up and the big woosh came out. Taft had stared at that from point blank range enough times that he merely leaned back instead of the whole jerking away thing most of the newer or less used to it folks did. The event horizon stabilized and the malp trundled through, at which point Taft grabbed one of the crates and hauled it to the top, setting it as far over to the side as possible that would still allow it to get kicked through the gate.

Taft then pointed for Tahirah to do the same thing on the opposite side. He figured the two of them were the hardened types with the least to lose, so they'd kick the crates through and then follow on the center line to seize the high ground while any observer was still staring at the malp and two crates. After he'd gotten whatever banter came with that whole process he looked to Tahirah and gave her a nod. "You take the left field of fire, I'll take the right, we go as soon as the control room gives the green light."

Indeed, Seargent Major. Ramatep the despoiler. He was known for beheading his enemies and playing children's games with their skulls. I find his tales quite humorous. Tahirah's expression was as stoic as any one would expect from a Jaffa, but there was a wicked gleam in her dark eyes. Of everyone on the team, possibly only Caleb would know if she was serious or not.

The Chappa'ai activated, and Tahirah felt that subtle feeling of awe creep over her, as it aways did. Before travelling to Earth, her job had been to capture anyone who came through the gate. Ima'he Sehkmet had insisted on keeping thier location secret. While travellers came through the gate, they never left. Not until SG-1 changed everything. Since then she had travelled through the gate 31 times, and each time it amazed her.

Nodding at the unspoken orders, Tahirha hefted the the crate up the ramp and positioned it opposite Taft's. A flick of her wrist, and the staff weapon's muzzle slid open, emitting a sound unlike any other. While not as precise as a p90, for a attention grabbing frontal assault the Staff Weapon was prfect. Left side. Yes, sir.

Claire took a deep breath as the wormhole opened and stabilised, and it was as though a switch had been flicked. The slightly jokey demeanour was gone, replaced with the serious, calm manner which embodied her work as a surgeon. This was it. The stakes didn't get any higher than this, in her opinion, and if the information was correct, there were multiple child casualties who would need their help. Claire just hoped that they were up to the task.

She nodded as Taft outlined where everyone else was in the order, and positioned herself - as ordered - in the middle, in front of Caleb and Meredith. A brief flicker of thought to Caleb was all she allowed herself, not even glancing around at him one last time. He would understand her need to compartmentalise now, to focus on the task at hand. Taking a deep breath, Claire readied herself to step through into another world.

"Now." Taft kicked his crate through the gate, took a step to the side to center up on the gate and jumped through with his weapon leveled ahead fully expecting to have Tahirah a bare half step behind him in pace and by his side by the time he really had his eyes adjusted.

The quadrangle was a complete mess. An explosion of some sort had gone off, cratering out a section of the quadrangle and cracking the earth and flagstone for meters beyond that. There were signs of weapon fire, energy scorch marks. But also pitting, as if from a projectile weapon. Taft would have to take a moment at some point to look for the projectiles to see if they were shrapnel or actual bullet-esque weapon fire remnants. For now he had a fire arc to investigate. He scanned the arc one way, then the other. The shotgun swept through and then pointed to individual spots for closer inspection but nothing moved. There were bodies, here and there, but so far as Taft could tell on an opening glance they were all Tollan.

He moved forward enough to make sure none of the rest of his team would be bumping into him, then waited until everybody was out and orientated.

Nodding her head at Claire, Mere offered her own small smile back. “Cross our fingers Doc”

She didn’t want to step through the gate and see the sort of carnage that was beyond their capabilities, but at the same time, she’d been on enough front lines to know that it was always a possibility, and as much as she wished she would be hardened to it by now, Mere was thankful that she wasn’t, knowing that little edge might be all that kept her trying to save a life when hope looked like it had abandoned them.

Passing a kit to Tahriah, Mere watched her split the kit down into its components, storing it in pocket after pocket.

Passing a kit along to Caleb, whom she realised she did recognise from passing in the Mess, Mere returned his smile with a friendly one of her own, although not too friendly. There was scuttlebutt about him, and a lot of it was related to his carnal activities. Not that Mere paid it much heed – Still she knew enough to know he’d knocked boots with at least one member of the party, and was rumoured to have shared a kiss with another. Provided he didn’t get fresh with her, she couldn’t give a rats arse whether he was the player he was made out to be or not.

She’d stumbled in on the end of a conversation regarding cartoon bandaids, and she shook her head as she dropped into position. The banter was a snippet of normality given the sudden events of the last hour, and it the Jaffa’s input was enough to illicit a snort of mirth from Mere.

Ramatep the despoiler – Not quite Disney

The Gate dialled and Mere blinked as the wormhole punched into the room before sucking back into, settling into its puddle like ready state. Back pack secure, Mere bought her weapon round so that she’d merely have to raise, point and shoot, and followed the others as they moved through.
