"Parnell, I didn't mean to cause offence," Claire began, shaking her head. "On earth, getting to know someone - including their history - is part of developing a friendship, which is what I would like to do with you and Elvria." However, if either or both of them was going to get upset or offended at her questioning, she would leave it alone. It wasn't worth the trouble or obstruction.

Claire hadn't expected Parnell to make such an abrupt appearance, but she would have to deal with it, especially if she wanted to know what was really going on. From her rare dealings with the symbiote she had the feeling that he would be very straight talking. She could appreciate that.

She nodded. "Neurosurgery is the specialism in the brain and nervous system," she explained. "This is why a neurosurgeon would be better placed than me to help out with the extraction of a Goa'uld." She didn't even think that the SGC had had a neurosurgeon on hand. She'd definitely need to try to get one called in, if this was as complex as it appeared to be.

Claire frowned, cocking her head to one side. "Yes, I know that," she said, wondering what she was missing in Parnell's explanation. That sounded like "Symbiote 101" to her, not something that would hold the key to the extraction.

And then a lightbulb went on.

"What if... it were possible to extract the naquadah from the blood?"

Parnell tilted his head to one side as though assessing Claire in her attempts to 'make friends' with them, both of them if he had heard her correctly. There was not many people on base that wanted to make friends with both of them, he knew that he was difficult to get along with by Tau'ri standards any way. But, well this woman was persistent he could definitely tell that, and there was something else, a determination to help, also not something he came across often.

“Tau'ri standards of 'getting to know' someone they are odd,” he commented slowly. “We all share a genetic memory, the Tok'ra and have not needed such conversation in the past.” It was as close as he got to saying that he was wrong, and he was sorry, he very rarely apologised for such things. That was very much Elvria's job, apologising for what he had said, but maybe, maybe a little bit of that was rubbing off onto him.

“We have no method of extracting such a things from blood,” he answered, “But you do? If you do, would our blood help?” There was no mistaking the our in that sentence, Parnell knew he had to be careful not to say I, saying I tended to make the Tau'ri uncomfortable as though the Symbiote was taking over. This would be a joint decision, and Parnell was sure that Elvria would agree.

Claire couldn't help but feel as though the Tok'ra was scrutinising her for some reason. Maybe she'd offended him by repeatedly inserting both feet into her mouth when speaking to Elvria. If that was the case, she was too tired to backtrack and grovel. He would just have to learn to deal with her as she was.

However, it seemed as though Parnell was thawing out towards her a little, and conceded that human customs seemed strange to him, due to the Tok'ra sharing a genetic memory. Claire inclined her head in acknowledgment. "See, to us, that's odd. It would be like having a thousand other people inside your head all at once. It's like you could never have another private though again." She wondered how the hosts came to terms with that.

Claire shook her head. "I don't know whether we could extract the naquadah from blood," she admitted. "I was thinking... would the Goa'uld let go if there was no more naquadah in the bloodstream? Or would it just make more?" She had no clue on the physiology of a symbiote, or what effect removing the naquadah would have on both the host or the Goa'uld. "I don't know, maybe I'm talking out of my arse. Maybe I need some sleep before I can get my head around all this." As if to prove her point, a yawn stole up on her, and Claire stifled it with a hand.
