((Sorry the posting order has me lost as J's charrie is already in the vent it doesn't further things any))

Lorne couldn't have hidden the surprise that had flashed upon his face at Ruth's suggestion that she join Elvria in the vent. Of course he had a free pass given his own much more substantial size the likelihood of him getting through without getting himself well and truly struck were slim especially given his less than athletic nature. He looked towards McKay hoping to not have to be the one to condemn Ruth to a journey through the vents but no reply came he turned back to the others. "You shouldn't encounter any issues, the system has several cross points but none that should be too difficult", he added.

As Serigliano made the order final he stepped back casting Ruth one last small smile before turning his attentions to opening the vent. Borrowing the multi tool device held by another of the rooms occupants he could heard to pull one of the tables across the mess fall positioning it just beneath the vent for better access. Unscrewing the front vent had required very little in the way of effort, it coming away easy before being deposited not the floor in a clatter.

Turning back to look towards the others he ran his fingers again through his already messed up hair. "Good to go", he announced simply remaining on the table to provide any assistance necessary to help the brave 'volunteers' make their way up into the vent. Ready yet again to feel completely and utterly useless.

Ruth swallowed deeply. While she had made the offer to go through the vent instead of Parnell, she hadn't expected to both be ordered through. Parnell - at least she thought the Tok'ra was still in command of the body - was looking in a bad way, and she wondered what he was doing, or trying to do that would be making him look so sickly.

In a way, she felt worse that they would both be going through, although she could see the logic of it. Her face stoci, Ruth took the radio and the Sharpie with a nod. "Got it," she replied, her voice far more resolute than she felt. Still, she had volunteered, and she wasn't backing out now. The way that Parnell looked, she had to be prepared for anything. She almost did a double take as the Miserable Major offered her a knife, and she took it with a quite nod. "Thank you," she replied, taking a deep, steadying breath as she eyed the entrance to the vent.

It looked smaller now that she was anticipating going through it, and the Major's vague directions just about filtered through as Ruth readied herself for something that she wouldn't find in the least bit easy.

Lorne's reassuring smile was unexpected, and she returned it with a shaky one of her own, before turning towards Parnell. "You sure you're up to this," she asked, but didn't get a chance to answer before the woman shimmied her way into the vent as soon as the cover was removed. Ruth was a little more cautious before lifting herself inside. "We'll be back as soon as we can," she called over her shoulder, before heading into the cool darkness.

((I'll set up a new thread for the vent.))

The air in the mess hall was starting to get warmer, but no thinner. There was clearly still airflow to the room, just not at the cool temperature it had been.

Elvria and Ruth had only been gone for a minute or two when a chair moved at the rear left corner of the mess hall. And there was nobody there who could have moved it.

Fia whirled at the sound, catching the movement out of the corner of her eye. Damn It! It was as she had feared, they weren't alone in here. Why whatever it was had sat so quietly, for so long, was a mystery she would tackle at another time, right now she needed to make sure her people were safe.

Captain, Major, I need this area cleared. Open space of at least a 15 foot radius from the vent. Use the tables as a barricade at 15 feet or more. Doctor, Sergeant, I want you to collect all the squeeze bottles you safely can. Don't ask, just do it. Fia then followed her own orders. Swiping the ketchup and mustard dispensers off the furthest table between herself and the chair, she then crouched and put her shoulder under one edge. With a grunt, she overturned it with a shove, sending the table crashing in the direction of the self moving chair. The table landed on it's side, hopefully giving the creature an obstacle.

Taking a squeeze bottle in either hand, Fia squirted a five foot swath of wiggly red and yellow lines across the floor. If they could get a perimeter up before the creature got inside, they could use disturbances in the condiments to let them know if anything got beyond the barricade. It left them vulnerable to any distance weaponry, but so far there had been no indication the enemies had them. Once we get the Area clear, I want any non occupied space marked like such. If any of you see the lines disturbed, you fire with what ever weapon you have. Throw silverwear if you have to. Understand?

The two women went through the vents, and a minute later things started to heat up. Clearly someone -or something- did not want them to get out of here. He did not like where this was going.

The Captain turned his head to the other Captain as she told everyone what they were going to do. It sounded like a solid plan, but for one thing. What if this creature didn't walk like they did. For all they knew, it could be hovering off the ground. No time to complain about it now, though.

Robert tossed the half empty cup away, and overturned one of the tables off to the side. He then quickly helped push over the table next to him, and finally sat down with his back against the table. He still had the P90, though he only had the one clip. If that ran out, he'd need to switch the the Beretta he had in the thigh holster. And if all else failed, he'd throw himself at it with the Ka-Bar he had tucked away.
