It was better, he felt better, not completely one hundred percent, he figured that was going to take time. Maybe once the jet lag had settled, he was back on some normal routine and had something to work towards once more, he would feel one hundred percent better. He just knew that so long as Claire was with him, that the missing Atlantis thing definitely was not going to hurt as much, and part of him was kicking himself for not opening up earlier.

He just hadn't known how, he hadn't wanted to mess the time they had with there parents up, and what a time it had been. He couldn't remember smiling or laughing as freely with both sets of parents as he had done in a long time, and maybe a small part of that had actually been a balm for the homesickness that had started to eat at him. It was just the quiet times that it had seem to strike a bit more and that usually meant once the festivities had died down, when everyone had gone to bed, so yeah he'd taken to night time wondering. Not far, and as he had told Claire, he had always made his way back to her.

Caleb couldn't help smiling as she said about the in sickness and health thing, “E hoa wahine,” he whispered, because at the end of the day, she was nothing but his wife in that moment and he didn't say that enough to her. They might not have the paperwork to legally say they were married, but god forbid anyone who tried to tell them otherwise, they were two very highly skilled people and they could put people in their place if they tried to say they weren't married. The smile was soft as he kissed the top of her head again, he still had his arms wrapped around her.

He let out his own laugh as she remembered that disastrous date, so he probably the only thing he could remember from the damn night was sleeping as well. “I remember coming back through the Gate so damn late, that it had almost been fifty sixes hours since we'd left, I don't remember much about the mission though,” although that could have something to do with the minor knock to the head he'd taken, it had been fun mission up to that point as well. “I remember our quarters were meant to be decked out with that flower that passed as rose on the mainland, and some of the very nice Athosian alcohol.” The drink that many of the people couldn't hold more than two cups full.

He had, had everything planned out, had even requested the day off, the pier he'd wanted was free (after some bribes to the other officers to keep away, he'd lost his stash of Athosian alcohol for that) and no one was going to disturb them. It was going to be perfect, everything was in it's place, ready to go, but the whole thing had gone down the drain. One thing after another, and yeah he remembered falling into bed next to Claire still fully clothed, sharing a joke or two about the bad day, before passing out. He'd woken up to some very uncomfortable pieces of clothing sticking into him, the uniform was not meant to be slept in for more than four hours at a time.

Taking a small step back, the smile a bit more mischievous now, “Me? Planning? I gave up my planning duties back on Atlantis, I thought you had planned something?” It had been Claire's idea to maybe go on a mini vacation just the two of them, and he had ended up settling on the destination.

Claire let out a quiet breath of relief as she felt Caleb relax further, knowing that he would find it easier now that he'd talked about things with her. She couldn't blame him. He adored Atlantis, and it had been the first time he had appeared to feel completely at home since they had met. To now have left that home for an extended period was bound to unsettle him, especially as he had never seemed to suffer from homesickness before.

Still, as his friendship had helped Claire through her homesickness, she hoped that Caleb would let her help him through his. She smiled as he called her his wife, in Māori. Even after having been a couple for well over a year, Caleb knew only a few words of Māori, most of them falling firmly into the class of dirty talk. It amused her, sometimes, to hear him mangling the words, with the best of intent.

Claire giggled softly at Caleb's memories of their failed anniversary celebration. She had already been half asleep - still wearing her uniform tee and trousers - when Caleb had collapsed onto the bed next to her, and she had snuggled in, before passing out after only a few words had been exchanged. Caleb's plans had been sweet and romantic, and it was almost poetic justice that everything had fallen through. "Maybe we should have realised it would all turn to shit," she grinned. "After all, it wasn't the first time it happened, was it?"

From their second date onwards, every time they had planned something romantic - with a couple of notable exceptions - something had seemed to get in the way. Only when they had taken the time to get away from the daily grind altogether had things gone as planned. Those rare occasions had been bliss, and one of her fondest memories had been the day they had taken her dad's truck while they were in New Zealand, starting the day in the city, flinging themselves off the Sky Tower, and ending the day watching an incredible sunset on Karekare beach. Sharing her "special place" with Caleb had meant the world to her.

Claire almost didn't trust that mischievous grin as Caleb took a step back, and she shivered as the cool night air kissed her bare arms and legs. If she listened carefully, she could hear the faint slapping of the water against the boats in the marina, and she could smell the tang of salt in the air.

"Nope, no planning here, e taku tahu," she replied, her smile equally as teasing in the moonlight. "Figured that, if you didn't have something planned, we might as well go with the flow, see what happens." Truth was, the weather forecast was good - warm and sunny - and they could probably do as they wanted. "Anything you want to do, e ipo?" Sure, she was asking him, but she had a funny feeling it was a moot point. Caleb was well and truly up to something.

It seemed that they both got lost in that anniversary memory for a moment or two, Caleb had spent so long planning everything out for it to go to rubbish, well he had kind of expected it to happen. But even as he had passed out next to Claire, he wouldn't have really changed it for the world (this one or Atlantis) because at the end of the day he was next to the woman he loved. An yes he knew if he said that out loud he would sound completely sappy, romantic, and if anyone besides Claire over heard it he'd get ribbed something terrible. Not that he wasn't already, but still.

As he felt himself relax a bit further, the shared memory of the failed anniversary soothing his soul just that bit more, he realised just sort of how tired he actually was. Sure he had served the military for most of his life that he could go for a few days without any sleep, but that was whilst on duty, he still liked to get a solid nights sleep when he wasn't on duty and not having that was taking it's toll now.

He felt himself wanting to just lay his head on Claire's shoulder and sleep for about a week, it seemed that now the sleeplessness had been 'found out' all he wanted to do was sleep. There was just a small part of him that doubted he'd actually sleep, he'd tried for the past few weeks to sleep and it hadn't happened.

Smiling despite the tiredness that was settling into his shoulders, he said, “We should never, ever go into the Event Planning Business, not even as a retirement plan.” Not that either of them was going to retire of course.

As Claire told him that she had not made any plans, he made a point of looking fake shocked at her, “You didn't? Oh this is just going to leave me with endless options.” There was a slight flirty smile that graced his face as he added, “How do you feel about the whole day in bed? I mean you didn't come here to sight see or anything right?”

He was not about to reveal exactly what he had planned for them both, the next day or so. There lives were always pretty damn hectic and he didn't want to make this holiday too busy, they had to take time to actually relaxed. But there was one or two activities so to speak, that he had planned whilst they stayed on the island. He just hoped that she was going to appreciate them, it had actually been quite hard to plan anything for them, but he had managed to rope in her father to keep her distracted for a while to book one thing, and then his own mother had suggested the other thing.

He did have to admit to himself that he wasn't overly good at hiding things from Claire (as proven by the fact she had discovered his night time routine all too quickly), even the good things. It was like when he was a kid back at home for Christmas, he just wanted to tell everyone what he'd gotten them. Many a surprise had been ruined because he hadn't managed to keep it to himself.

Claire felt her eyes growing heavy as she stood there in Caleb's embrace, and she smiled softly into his bare chest, letting her eyes flutter closed for just a moment. No matter how their best laid plans had failed, no matter the little glitches along the way, here they were, in Italy, stronger than ever. And Claire wouldn't change a single thing.

Sure, their relationship had been unexpected, come completely out of the blue, but, right from the get go, it had felt right. They had been firm friends from the day they had met,and their friendship had only grown stronger. In the end, she had completely missed the spark between them until that teasing moment in the gym. The last thing she had been expected was for Caleb to have taken her up on the joke offer to "kiss it better".

And what a kiss it had been.

Claire laughed at Caleb's comment about event planning. "No shit," she chuckled, dropping a kiss onto his chest. "We'd end up getting run out of whichever country we set up in!" Okay, so that was an exaggeration. Without their current jobs to get in the way, they might well be able to plan something without everything turning to shit.

She gave a throaty giggle as Caleb revealed, although not in so many words, that he had, indeed, made plans for Valentine's Day. Claire herself hadn't wanted to tempt fate, but, deep down, she knew that Caleb would have wanted to plan something himself. He seemed to enjoy it, even if his plans never came to fruition. "I could handle a whole day in bed, e ipo," she murmured. Not that she would be able to get up to much if they didn't go get some sleep soon. "Is all this lack of sleep getting to you?" Her voice was deceptively innocent, and, had it been lighter, Caleb would have been able to see the mischievous sparkle in her eyes.

Teasingly, even as her fingers traced a soft line up his spine, Claire's lips and tongue traced a trail up his chest. "You sure you don't want to tell me what you have planned?"

He was glad that the air had been cleared between them, in a sense, or rather he was glad that he had been found out. Because the longer he stood there with Claire all but wrapped around him, he felt more at peace than he had been in the last few weeks. He knew he was probably going to end up sleeping in for the next few days, or at least he hoped his sleep would get back to normal now that Claire knew about the night time 'problem' so to speak.

Or in his mind, if he found himself awake again at least he now knew, she knew, so he could say something to her, not that he liked the thought of waking her up still, he didn't like either of them being sleep deprived, but at least if it was him he didn't have to actually work on people, Claire did. But he made a mental note to himself that he was going to try, his damned hardest now that it was all out there.

He gave a small chuckle as she said they'd be run out of which ever country they were in, it was true they'd probably have to find a Stargate to disappear most of the plans would fall through. “Definitely no event planning then,” he whispered in agreement.

Of course then she started teasing him, the woman seriously could drive any thought from his mind half the time (and did on occasion as well, not that he didn't reciprocate of course, there were most definite times when they were both left with no words for each other, just puffed out kisses). The kisses she was currently placing on his bare chest were hot against his chilled skin, despite the lack of sleep he very much liked the sensation starting to play out across his body.

Even a year or so later the woman stood in front of him (currently trailing teasing fingers up and down his spine) could still surprise him. He'd been with a lot of woman in his past, each one had brought something new to experience and he'd learn something new as well, but with Claire, despite all his experience still managed to surprise him and elicit some kind of carnal desire within him that no one else had done before.

If there ever was a more appropriate time to use the phrase 'whipped', now was it. He actually forgot for a moment that she'd asked him a question, his own hands replaying the lazy pattern she was drawing on his back, on her arms. His hands catching the bottom of the t-shirts sleeve as he kept up the pattern.

“You might need to ask a bit nicer than that,” he whispered, dipping his head as though he was going to kiss her, his breath ghosting across hers, “Really, really nicely, sweetheart.”

Claire's skin was becoming more chilled in the night air. She had no idea what time it was, but it was definitely more cold than cool now, and her feet were icy on the cold stone of their balcony. It might be pretty, stood here looking out at the harbour, but it was bloody freezing. Time to try to nudge things back indoors, as far as she was concerned.

She laughed as Caleb reiterated they should never go into event planning. It was a good thing they had never had their own wedding to plan: they would have undoubtedly failed miserably, and ended up with nothing more than a piss up down the pub, if they had made it down the aisle at all. That wasn't something she was going to put voice to, though. To all intents and purposes, they were married, and they didn't need the piece of paper or the ceremony to prove it to anyone. Her one regret - even that was too strong a word, really - was that her dad had never gotten to walk her down the aisle. Still, he understood their relationship far better than most, and Claire had no doubt that he didn't mind one bit.

"Maybe we ought to look into something more... sedate when we retire," she teased. "Wraith hunters? How does that sound?" Not that she was considering retiring, not for a long time. And, when she did, who knew how that would look? It wasn't even something she had really considered, and didn't plan to just yet.

Claire could feel the reaction she began to elicit from Caleb, and his unspoken response was mirrored by her own reactions. She felt her skin goosepimpling, and not just because of the cold, as Caleb's fingers trailed up and down her arms, brushing underneath the sleeves of the t-shirt that she had purloined. She gave another throaty laugh as Caleb leaned down to tease her with a kiss that never happened.

"I think I can ask nicely," she breathed, her hands tracing down his spine again, letting her fingers dip underneath the waistband of his sleep pants. "Question is..." Claire let her words hang as she stood on tiptoe, brushing her lips tantalisingly close to his. "Just how nice would you like me to be, Mr Te Atua?" One of her hands made its way round to the front of the sleep pants, and, stepping backwards towards the doors back to their bedrooms, Claire shot him a "come hither" look. "Well? You coming?"

Caleb couldn't help laughing as Claire suggested something more sedate when they retired, not that he actually ever had any plans to retire, probably much to most peoples chagrin. “You and I have very different ideas on sedate retirement plans, plus I think that jobs already taken, I don't fancy going up against Ronan for the Wraith Hunters job, do you?”

He did have to wonder briefly how they managed to go from talking about something quite serious, to joking around about retirement and then completely segue into something altogether a lot more fun and a lot more distracting. It was the charm of the pair of them, he knew that, that they could flick so easily between things and although he knew the time of talking for the night time wondering were over for now. He knew, in his heart that Claire was going to make sure he didn't dwell on them thoughts as often. Or if he did, then he knew she was probably going to drag them out of him.

Speaking of dragging things out of him, he felt his breath catch as her hands strayed below the waist band on his pyjama bottoms. His own hands, holding onto her arms tightly as she went to kiss him, but started speaking instead, he could feel her breath dance across his lips, warm against the chill of the air and it was a tantalizing mixture of senses running through him.

He went to step forward, everything in him wanting to just back her up against the wall and be done with it, but even on the third floor of a hotel room he wouldn't take the chance of someone spotting them. Mainly cause he wanted Claire all to himself, no one was allowed to see her the way he did, the way he made her sigh and gasp, that was all his.

It was as the hand travelled around to the front, there was no hiding exactly what she was doing to him, her chilled hand making him gasp out loud as it found heated flesh. Then she stepped away slightly from him and asked him a question, a question that took him a moment to realise needed an answer because once she looked at him that way, the certain twinkle she got in her eye he knew that they weren't going to be getting back to sleep straight away.

He stepped towards her, making sure she didn't loose the contact she currently had with him, especially as he manoeuvred back inside the room, and started to very slowly, very carefully, very teasingly started to lift the t-shirt she was wearing off her body. Making sure that he kept placing kisses every so often along the side of her neck, never breaking the teasing pattern he had started on her arm, that was now tracing across her sides, never completely lifting the top off right away. “Always coming for you, Claire,” he whispered.

"Ronon's going to wear his bones out far quicker than either of us," replied Claire, a wicked grin in place. "Besides, you might look good in all that leather, e taku tahu." Not really, but it was still an image that danced across her mind. Caleb in dress whites, however, was a sight to behold. Maybe that was something she could persuade him to take to Atlantis when they returned, not for public consumption, mind you.

At last, the mood was lightening, and Claire could no longer feel the weight of Caleb's worry sitting on their shoulders. He never wanted to burden her, but, in doing so, took on far too much himself, often forgetting that it would affect them both in the long run anyway.

Claire gave a sharp intake of breath as Caleb's fingers tightened around her upper arms, even as her fingers went exploring around the waistband of his sleep pants. He had expected her to offer the kiss that he had promised and denied, and demonstrated a sharp need as he was left with nothing but the taste of her breath on his lips. She half expected him to throw caution to the winds and take things further right there and then, but something stopped him.

Instead, as she hooked her finger into the front of his sleep pants and tugged him inside, he followed willingly. No sooner than they were indoors, Caleb closed the gap between them, his searching fingers slowly lifting the t-shirt, brushing tantalisingly against her skin. His lips sought her neck, causing little shivers to race down her spine, even as she tugged him closer, her hands more sure now on his back. Claire turned her head, capturing Caleb's lips in a fiery, demanding kiss. Now that she was awake, she didn't think she would be able to sleep without purging both of their thoughts of Caleb's little night time wanderings.

She shivered again as his fingers brushed tantalisingly slowly up her sides, feeling her nipples tighten as the need grew stronger. "So I've heard," she murmured, her voice little more than a throaty whisper, before pulling Caleb closer, and into another kiss. Her tongue mapped the contours of his mouth, something that she had done thousands of times before, but never tired of. His taste was always intoxicating to her, something she always wanted more of.

Claire caught a glimpse of the clock behind Caleb, and she smiled into the kiss, giving his lip a little nip of her teeth.. "Happy Valentine's Day, e ipo...."

Caleb wrinkled his nose up as Claire said he'd look good in all the leather, it most definitely was not his style. In fact he hadn't ever really worn leather in his look at all, not even if someone asked, it just very much was not him. Sure the odd occasion there had been certain requests (people didn't want to sleep with a sailor without some odd requests here and there), but he had most definitely refused the leather thing.

Although stood there, with the feeling homesickness disappearing into the back of his mind, as other more pleasant feelings began to surface, he wasn't sure if Claire ever asked him to wear leather he'd actually turn her down. Because if there was one thing about the woman currently standing very tantalising close to him – trying to drive him out his mind and mostly succeeding) was that he didn't think he would ever actually turn her down.

It felt like hours as he teased her, being led back indoors, the fire inside of him being very carefully and methodically fanned as he stepped closer to her. As his hands trailed further up inside the t-shirt, gently brushing across one of her breasts, before his hand trailed back away, he did this several times, alternating each side as he stepped closer to her.

The kiss that she pulled from him was full of demand, fire, passion and need, everything that he himself felt in that moment and gave back to her. It was like he had been without water for so long and kissing Claire was that drink of water, but instead of soothing, it ignited something much more demanding in return.

“Happy Valentines day, E hoa wahine,” he murmured back, between kissing her. He hadn't realised that the time had ticked away from them so quickly.

One of his hands trailed lower to her hip, when he realised one very important fact that he had missed from earlier in the night, the damnable woman was not wearing any god damn underwear. The woman was out to kill him, he was sure, even as it made his blood feel ever move alive, he shift slightly against her, before breaking the kiss, laughing at her, in between trailing kisses across her jaw and down her neck once more.

“I believe, you're not wearing underwear, sweetheart,” his voice was gruff, almost hoarse, as he trailed his hand back up from her hip, across her side, resting it just on her stomach for a moment.

Catching his breath a moment, as much as he loved having sex with Claire, he didn't particularly want them to both be still half dressed each. Not that night anyway. The hand that had been resting on her stomach, took hold of the hem of the t-shirt, smiling wickedly, he very slowly started to pull it up – his intention to pull the top off very clear – his fingers stopping every so often to trail a pattern, as he would kiss her.

There wasn't going to be much longer where he could stay this calm, standing half naked against her, kissing her, his own breath was becoming ragged and it was taking every once of self control not to just throw her on the bed that was behind her.

Claire chuckled as she thought she detected a slight hint of panic as she mentioned Caleb wearing leather. It really didn’t do anything for her, and likely never would. “I’d rather you wore your dress whites for me,” she murmured, her voice a low, sultry whisper. While she didn’t mind the beard she had cultivated since they had moved to Atlantis, she loved the clean cut look on him, and, combined with the dress whites, it drove her wild.

It wasn't how Caleb looked that Claire loved most, however. It was the way he made her feel: special. He looked at her as though she was the only woman in the world, as though she was the only thing that mattered to him, and that alone was intoxicating and addictive. She wouldn't give him up for anything.

Gasping as Caleb's hands slowly teased her cool skin, making their way under the t-shirt she had purloined, Claire bit down on her bottom lip as Caleb's thumb casually brushed a nipple, before repeating on the other side. Sometimes, he was almost systematic in his seduction of her, but never predictable. He just knew what would get her going in the most intense way, and, sometimes, went straight for the jugular.

And she loved him for it.

The kisses were fiery and demanding on both sides, and, as always, Claire felt herself responding to Caleb's touch with zero hesitation. No matter how long they were together, it just didn't get old. She wanted him every bit as much as she did the first day they kissed. She grinned as he called her his wife. That was something else that never got old.

The moment he realised that she wasn't wearing any underwear - after all, she had been naked when they were asleep, and had just grabbed his tee - Claire threw back her head and laughed, a husky, throaty chuckle, her breath hitching again as his fingers trailed from her hip across the gentle curve of her stomach, where they rested for a moment. It was a quiet, intimate gesture, one that spoke volumes, saying far more than words ever could.

"Nope, no knickers," she grinned, leaning in and stealing another kiss. "Why would I need them?" Her voice was all innocence, and she laughed again as she felt Caleb pulling the shirt slowly up her body, its removal his goal.

Not that she was slacking in the clothes removal department. Her fingers trailed a line underneath the waistband of his sleep pants, stopping at the front, before, and with a slow, teasing kiss, she tugged at the drawstring. "Two can play at that game," she breathed into his mouth, slowly, tortuously, nudging the waistband down over his hips, until they dropped on their own into a puddle on the floor.
