Caleb nodded his head, yeah he knew he wasn't making much sense, it was strange that things in your head always made sense but then when you tried to speak them out loud it just sounded like you were making excuses not to do something. If there was one thing Caleb actually prided himself on, it was not making excuses when there wasn't any. "No I've not spoken to her yet, I plan to after this of course."

He just wasn't sure exactly what she would say about what he'd decided to do, he kind of hoped that although internally he'd made the choice that he wouldn't have to give his answer then and there. Although the more he thought about it, the enthusiasm he'd seen from McKay, his own prospect of something exciting again, he couldn't say he wasn't going. There was a reason he'd joined the Navy and one of them was the fact that he didn't stay in one place that long.

"Vials, jars, sometimes I think we should just give a pint and then you Doctors can run all the tests you want and still have some left over," he joked back, taking the rubber ball he'd been given and squeezing it tightly.

Carson nodded. It was none of his business, really. That being said, if Caleb going to Atlantis might mean that Carson got the deputy of his choice... well, that was nothing bad, was it? He pushed that selfish thought to the back of his mind. "Aye, you do that, lad. Get things out in the open, then make your decision."

He felt for the man, he really did. Caleb had acted like an excited kid when they had been talking about Atlantis, and yet he was worried about leaving Claire behind. Carson himself had no such ties, only his mother to consider, but she would understand. He would tell her he was working on a classified project for the "bloody Americans" as she called them, and she would accept it. The only thing that concerned him was the fact that her mental faculties appeared to be failing her. He wondered whether she would even miss him.

Carson gave a wry chuckle. "If we took as much as we wanted from those who hold the gene, there'd be nothing left," he replied, with more than a hint of revulsion. His own arms had looked like pincushions while he had been working on the initial discovery. "Sharp scratch, lad," he warned, even as the needle went in. Expertly, he drew two vials, and it was over in a flash. He handed Caleb a cotton ball. "We'll have the results in a day or two, just pop in." Carson gave Caleb an appraising look, thick eyebrows raised in expectation.

"Anything else I can do to help you, lad?"

It was so easy for the Doctor to say that, to talk and then make a decision, but there was a small part of Caleb that was quite worried about any decision making after talking to Claire. He knew he had to, he knew there was no other way around it, but it didn't make it any easier. But he nodded his head in agreement of his own suggestion and the Doctors, at the end of the day that was all that needed to be done.

Caleb didn't so much as flinch when the needle went in, he was use to needles, and he'd been watching the Doctor closely. He liked to know when things were going to happen, especially when it came to medical stuff. "That's, that's a very scary thought to know how much you need," he replied, smiling as the needles was taken from his arm. All vials full of the lovely red stuff, he was sure he should feel more light headed at the knowledge of blood being taken, but he didn't. He'd grab something to eat and drink on his way out, before starting his shift so that it wouldn't end up becoming a problem. He didn't want another trip to see the Doctor, not that night anyway.

"Not today, no, and again sorry for completely dumping all that stuff on you," he said offering an apology as he stood up.
