Caiden being relatively new to the SGC knew a few of the Doctors and the scientists working at the SGC. SGC is a pretty big place with a lot of personnel but only a few doctors and a few scientists that are biology majors or biochemists.

Caiden was both a biochemist and a medical doctor or surgeon as he simply refers to himself as. Caiden heard about the mystery illness and how it is still a mystery and Caiden is always up for a good mystery although he is more at home in the operating room solving the problem rather than trying to solve a problem with labs especially when its from an alien world. Thing about alien worlds are the different diseases, parasites, illnesses, bacteria and many other factors that come along with the alien world, but its the risk we take or they take every day.

Caiden never was off-world and isn't all that eager to be, Caiden read all of the mission reports and medical reports which were pretty unbelievable, but another reason is due to the fact that Caiden would most likely be dealing with traumatic injuries off-world or when there is a high risk of injuries.

Anyways Caiden caught himself up on the mystery case and did find it odd that only the women became sick. It could be a gender thing or the women were more susceptible to whatever they caught than the men were. Caiden doubts the gender theory, its valid of course but there are more than a million different reasons as to why they caught this illness and why the men didn't.

Caiden walked into the infirmary and labs looking for the Doctor's with a sub and Pepsi in hand. Nothing makes Caiden sick or causes him to lose his appetite, he is a trauma surgeon afterall and had a lot nasty looking patients with broken limbs, nasty abrasions and organs on the outside of the body after being seriously injured in accidents and violent crimes. Caiden with his bag of food and drink walks around looking for the doctors and can't yet. With his food and Pepsi, Caiden walks to the elevator and en route to the mess hall walking down the corridor the doctors appear.

"Hey Doctors, out of curiosity did you find out what the mystery illness is yet?" Caiden asked while opening his bag and pulling out his sub apparently following the doctors en route to the mess hall.

If the entire team was together the entire mission, the probability of the cause of the condition being environmental plummeted. If not an environmental toxin, then what? Something infectious?

Jake's eyes unfocused as his brain starting scanning through possibilities. "If not environmental, something infectious? Unknown microbe? The lesions could potentially be auto-immune related- psoriasis on steroids?. And autoimmune diseases affect women more often than men. Have you done any tests for auto-immune activity?"

Jake's head jumped in Claire's direction as she commented on how tired he looked. He gave her a tired smile and said "Uh, I think I'm going on 20 hours? How long have you been on?"

Jake noted that Sophie looked much less disheveled, and much more put together when she re-emerged from her lab. Jake was momentarily distracted by how good she looked when she wasn't just stepping out of a hazmat suit. He gave her a grin as she mentioned coffee.

After Claire agreed with Sophie on the issue of coffee, Jake nodded and they headed towards the mess hall.

Jake turned at a somewhat familiar male voice, one that he didn't immediately recognize. Once he turned around, he noticed Caiden, another surgeon. Jake nodding at him, said "We were actually just discussing it, and these two were filling me in on the case to date."

A little stunned at just how brightly Dr Jake was smiling at her, Sophie swept her gaze back across to her Kiwi compadre, just in time to catch a not so subtle eyebrow wiggle.

“Good plan. Let’s keep your brain in your head, and out of a jar on my desk!” Moving closer to Claire as they all started to walk down the hall, Sophie dropped her head a little closer and dropped her voice to a hushed whisper “The suit makes my hair frizzy – I hate frizzy” Quirking a small smile, she resumed a normal pace and gap between her and the others.

“Auto immune was my first guess – Well, discoid lupus” Turning around as another voice piped up from the corridor, Sophie clocked Dr West, a surgeon who knew a little something about biochemistry. She hadn’t had chance to work with him all that much despite a similar field of study. That might have been because he spent most of his time preferring the title of surgeon; Sophie figured it was because it was easier to explain to people that he was that kind of Dr, rather than a theory Doctor.

“Hi, still puzzling it over” It wasn’t surprising that he knew about it, news like this seemed to spread like wildfire within the S.G.C. Noticing for the first time that he was munching on a sandwich whilst he walked, Sophie was sort of glad he didn’t frequent her lab all that often. Although watching him eat, was a reminder that actually food might be a smart idea after all.

Caiden starts to eat the sub before a long shift, you have to eat if you're going to be working a 12 or 16 hour shift, sometimes even 24 hour shifts. Not a big fan of subway but its healthy enough... Pepsi also not the best but its good and good is well, good.

Caiden follows the Doc's, just in time apparently. Figuring this out will be a mystery, not a big fan of mysteries but always up to a good challenge. "So only the women were infected with whatever this is... Its either a gender thing, or something from the planet they were on, it could also be parasitic or something they did that the men didn't do." Caiden talks out loud, sometimes he talks to himself to just talk it through, out loud seems to work better than in his head.

Caiden not sure what they already talked about or already ruled out decided to speak his thoughts and see if any alarms go off in anyone's heads. Sometimes just talking out loud and throwing something out there triggers an idea in someone elses head. The doctors are all brilliant and the best in their fields, surely if anyone can figure it out, its one of the four, especially when talking about an alien world that no one outside of the SGC can even know about.

Caiden spoke his mind and was starving so he pulls out the sub and before reaching the mess hall decides to eat, can't do much on an empty stomach after all especially with a long shift ahead...

"Frizzy. Right."

Sophie had looked perfectly presentable after stripping of the suit, and she knew it. She just wanted to make a good impression on Jake. It wasn't the first time that Claire had seen that reaction since she had started at the SGC, and she was certain it wouldn't be the last. Jake was a looker, and a nice guy with it, and was, in Claire's opinion, a catch for whoever ended up with him. It was almost a shame that he just wasn't her type.

Claire shook her head as Jake told her how long he had been on shift. "Hanging on from last night's night shift, huh," she said, her voice rueful. It was coming up on ten in the evening, so Jake must be totally shagged out by now. "Sounds like you ought to be hitting the sack, not getting another caffeine load." Whle Jake was military, when she was on supervisory duty in the infirmary, his wellbeing was her responsibility. While she didn't want to pull rank, she was prepared to if she needed to.

Twitching an eyebrow upwards in surprise as another voice chimed in, Claire turned to see Caiden west, seemingly preparing to eat his... well, whatever the hell it was at this time of night, in the corridor. "Tried all those options already, Dr West," she said, shrugging. "Hoping that one of the virologists or epidemiologists is faring better on it, but not heard anything from them."

She could smell the mess hall now, the late night aromas consisting of mainly comfort food and chocolatey scents. Claire's stomach grumbled. "Unfortunately, the answer is likely to lie with one of them." She nodded her head at Sophie. "Or Sophie here. Us poor and lowly trauma specialists are likely to be pretty fucked on it, really."

Jake chuckled at Claire's suggestion that he go sleep instead of getting coffee, and responded with an old joke from medical school. "Why Dr. Te Atua, don't you know that sleep just a symptom of caffeine deprivation?" He gave her an endearing smile, then sighed as his face fell. He was exhausted. "I managed to grab a few hours of sleep in between patients coding. Besides, I have the next 24 off, so I can catch up on sleep later."

Jake nodded and smiled at Sophie. She definitely knew her stuff. He was glad she was part of the team working on this.

Jake listened to Caiden's suggestions, noting each one as he ran it through his mind. "Sophie, you mentioned something genetic, you're thinking something sex-linked? The symptoms are somewhat reminiscent of ichthyosis, but don't quite fit. That's linked to X chromosome mutations, isn't it? What about biological differences between the sexes? Possibly reactions to differences in hormonal levels?"

Jake bit his lip in thought. What else could it be?

Mumbling his thoughts out loud as he turned ideas over in his head, Jake continued more to himself as they walked down the corridor than to his co-workers, "With the small sample size, it doesn't necessarily mean it has to be sex-linked. Maybe it is linked to some other genetic or biological issue, and it just happened to affect the two women. Are we blinding ourselves by focusing on the most obvious difference between those affected and those not?" Jake sighed and ran his hand through his hair. He needed some caffeine.

It appeared her friend was not buying the frizzy hair excuse, not that it mattered. Sophie was sticking with it, although the fact that Claire had caught her all but drooling over the Jake was another matter. She wasn’t interested, okay, perhaps a little interested. He was delectable eye candy, but there was a lot of difference between admiring and acquiring, and Sophie just couldn’t cast that net out again, not after Luc.

The conversation moving back onto the topic at hand provided a welcome distraction from the small pit of sadness that lurked in the back of her mind, and she was glad to be called back into the flow as they continued on, absorbing the newest enquiring mind.

“Genetic seemed the most likely candidate. Ichthyosis explains that scaliness, but the pus and suppurating sores and a whole new ball game. Besides, aside from being X linked, there’s what 4 known ways to contract it, and a couple of diseases that present with it as an off shoot” Sophie stopped talking as the group entered the lift to take them to the 22nd floor

“I don’t think we’re being overly narrow minded, it’s the most logical conclusion to draw given the evidence gathered so far. Point me at a penis owning individual presenting with similar symptoms and I will happily redefine a conclusion” She lulled back into a silence, trying to sort information out in her head.

“I’ve asked Claire for copies of their medical files to cross examine for anything they’ve both ever had. If it wasn’t for the fact it’s not responding to antibiotics, I would have called it a nasty staph infection and left you all to it”

She lift doors opened and she spilled out onto the end of the corridor, the Mess in sight.

“Urgh, I can’t brain - Need coffee”
She threw her hands up in mock frustration, the gesture only partially reflective of the bug bear that was really starting to crawl under her skin.

“Lets talk loudly and see how many people we can put off their food” She smirked a little at the others before pushing the door to the mess wide.
