Third off world trip accomplished. Gerry was smiling from ear to ear when she came through the Stargate covered in mud and dirty. It had been a routine mission to a safe planet - probably the planet all newbies were taken to be broken in the whole gate travel thing - and she had tagged along with a couple other scientists to observe some of the planet's fauna and flora. It had rained the entire time but Gerry had enjoyed every single moment. No one was shot at and they had to get back before she had time to clean up because the geologist ended up having an allergic reaction to one of the plants they examined but other than that Gerry had a blast.

At the gate they were told to report to the infirmary to get the regular post-mission check up while the geologist was taken quickly to the infirmary. Gerry returned the sidearm - she never used - and the zat - she knew how to use - to the armory and headed to the infirmary. As usual she was greeted by a nurse to led her to one of the exam tables. Gerry took off her cap and tried to clean the mud off her cheeks with her hand as she hopped on the table and waited for her turn to get checked out.

The geologist was obviously a priority and the attention was on the short man whose face looked even more red now that a nurse had removed the mud off his face. She could hear the woman assuring him that he would be fine. Gerry figured the SGC was used to handling allergic reactions. She just glanced around for the time being looking for something to keep her entertained while she waited.

Today was the day, the last shift before they headed off to New Orleans for a long weekend away, Caleb was sure that he was practically skipping as he entered the infirmary. He had managed to get a short break, there was nothing about to explode, nothing new had come in and well, well to be honest he was rather bored. It seemed ages since the other night when they had been planning out what they going to do together, teasing each other about what costumes the others was going to wear, and having serious conversations. Along with a ton of kissing, which he really enjoyed to be honest.

But now, now it felt like he hadn't seen Claire in such a long time, he often found himself searching the woman out. He had done it before they were together, he just hadn't really noticed it before, but now they were an item he found himself searching her out more and more. Caleb wanted her company, he wanted to see her smile and if she wasn't smiling then he wanted to make her smile. That was his one mission for most days, find Claire and make her smile, not that he would ever tell her that, but he got the feeling she already knew.

Stepping into the infirmary, he looked around, it was busy but not swamped - thank god - he offered a cheeky smile to some nurses as he passed. He would have offered them a small remark but one of them glared at him, so he thought it was best to kept the comment to himself for now.

He spotted Claire towards the back of the infirmary, he couldn't quite make out what she was doing, but he would recognise the shape of her body anywhere. Smiling even brighter, he headed over as quietly as possible, before subtly - so as no one would see - he placed a hand at the back of her elbow in way of greeting.

"Now what is a lovely Doctor doing in a place like this? With all these sick people around?" he said, the flirty tone in full force, as he winked at a passing nurse. He was actually quite glad that Claire wasn't with a patient at that moment in time, he was sure his comment would have gotten him some complaint.

Filing. Oh joy.

It wasn't one of Claire's favourite things to do, but it was a part of the job, and one that she had to get on with whether she liked it or not. She had been on shift since eight that morning, not particularly long, but enough to generate a stack of paperwork that she didn't feel it fair to leave to the nurses. After she went off shift that afternoon, she wouldn't be back until Tuesday, and the last thing she wanted to do was to leave chaos in her wake.

She glanced up as the Alpha Site team returned, frowning as she glanced at her watch. They were early, but it was clear to see why. Barker, the geologist, had appeared to have an allergic reaction to something. However, the team were in good hands as the nurses tended to them, calling the duty physicians over to those who needed it. She had no worries that the infirmary would continue to run like a well-oiled machine while she was away. Janet Fraiser had assembled a first class team, and it wouldn't feel her loss for a few days.

The last folder slipped into the cabinet, locked, and keys stashed in her pocket, Claire turned - barely surprised - as she felt a hand on her elbow. Caleb was in playful mood today, it appeared, giving her the kind of flirt that he might offer to any woman on the base, his usual tactic when there were other people around.

Claire shot Caleb a laconic look, her eyes sparkling with mischief, the tiniest hint of a smile on her lips. "Well, maybe that would be because some of us get paid to associate with the sick and injured," she replied, her voice clipped, but with an undeniable spark there that made it clear she was returning the flirt. "And what would your excuse be? Coming down with a fever, perhaps?"

Gerry wasn't a psychologist and she didn't pretend to be one but studying behavior was her thing. It was usually animal or organismic behavior - now she was leaning to humanoid since her introduction to the SGC - but whatever the subject was she took in consideration psychological aspects of a race or specimen. Human behavior was something that she ended up observing by default over the years. It came with the territory so to speak.

However, it hadn't been Gerry's intention to pay more attention than usual to the lieutenant - she wasn't sure about the rank; she didn't always tell the military people apart - and one of the doctors on call, Dr. Te Atua. But the way he carried himself into the room just made her curious especially when he was throwing winks around and cheeky smiles.

Gerry had been warned told about him - Caled was his name? She had to be better at memorizing some of the names, but it seems the man had a reputation around base and he did sound flirty when he spoke to Dr. Te Atua. Again, it hadn't been Gerry's initial intention to overhear their exchange but she wasn't too far away and they weren't whispering or anything.

She was also a curious person and it was always fascinating to find out whether an aspect of someone's personality was embedded in their genetic markup or it was something environmental and learned over the years by an external influence. She replayed the man's arrival in her mind and now noted that one nurse had responded to his presence positively while a second one didn't look so pleased. That didn't tell her anything about the nature of the man's flirting but it told her that it wasn't always welcome.

Dr. Te Atua seemed to be responding well to Caleb in any case and Gerry promptly noted there seemed to be a degree of familiarity between them and maybe more? Gerry really didn't want to be the noisy patient but she didn't have anything else to do while she waited for someone to check on her. The couple in question didn't seem to mind the audience otherwise they would be moving to a more private location and that made fair game to Gerry to observe the courtship.

She folded one leg under her and pulled a small notepad and pen from the side pocket of her BDUs. She scribbled a few words and kept watching and enjoying the exchange.

Caleb put on a mock hurt expression, "Really, do I need to be injured to come for a visit?" he asked, his eyes were smiling that soft gentle smile he held solely for Claire, but his whole body was on the cheeky flirty side. It was sometimes hard at times to remember that their relationship was not widely known, or rather it was still very much in the rumour mill, especially with his reputation.

It took work to remember to keep the usual flirtatiousness notched up to the maximum whilst making sure that Claire knew it was just light-hearted. He learnt from his very first mistake, the first time after they had kissed and he hadn't actually spoken to her in a few days because work had been so busy, after that fiasco he made a point of speaking to her. Even if it was via email and keeping it so professional it sounded weird.

He smirked at her, "Of course now that you mention it, I do feel a little hot and considering all the other doctors are busy..." he trailed off, letting her draw her own conculisons to what he was going to say.

It was risky actually being that forward in public, but it also wasn't risky for him, it was kind of expected from him. The only down side was that he couldn't really be touching her, or kissing her or have her any closer than what she currently was. He did a subtle look up and down at her, even in her uniform there was something rather sexy about the woman in front of him.

Claire rolled her eyes, and, ensuring that she maintained a professional distance, despite Caleb's hand being on her arm, she twitched her eyebrows upwards, not caring whether they were seen by anyone in the infirmary. It wasn't a display of affection, by any stretch of the imagination. "Well, sick or injured is usually the only reason for otherwise healthy people to visit the infirmary," she said. To all intents and purposes, it was a perfectly professional conversation. To Caleb, though, well, he'd know full well that it was a one hundred percent tease. He hadn't come armed with a coffee, or food, so they had to at least play into the pretence.

"Hot and bothered," she repeated, trying to keep her expression as professional as possible. Claire wasn't quite sure she had succeeded. She was so eager to get away on her weekend with Caleb that she wasn't certain that she had it in her to be completely professional when he was visiting her on a break. "Why don't you tell me about your symptoms?" She nodded towards an empty bed, keeping her expression as straight and professional as possible.

"Have a seat, Caleb," she said, nodding at the bed opposite Geraldine's. Her professional facade was now impeccable. "Why don't you explain to me the problem you're having, and I'll so my best to sort you out?" Normally, if Caleb had arrived during a quiet period, Claire would have drawn him into her office and closed the door. However, it was busy and public, and they at least had to play their roles. "Is it the aircon, or something else that's bothering you?"

It seemed like the man couldn't control the flirting even if the smile he was giving the good doctor looked very genuine. His inability to not flirt given the situation something that Gerry picked up and put down as being an aspect of his overall personality and not just for show. Some men liked to act flirty or like the ladiesman when they weren't really like that. Others just couldn't help themselves. Now whether the flirting was part of Caleb's markup or a learned behavior was something she din't have enough to speculate about. She needed more...maybe an interview.

Gerry furrowed her brow and wondered whether they would mind if she interrupted their flirting conversation to question the patient. "Probably not a good idea," she muttered under her breath and made more a few notes on her pad.

Dr. Te Atua was acting very professional now. Gerry noticed the slight change in her behavior and had asked Caleb to take a seat. If Gerry hadn't been first in line for a medical consult she would have dismissed everything as Caleb being flirty and Dr. Te Atua just putting up with but since Gerry as a patience was ignored in favor of Mr. Flirty she was sure the doctor was just trying not get caught.

"Very interesting," Gerry said with a proud smile like she had discovered something important - it was relevant even if pure speculative at this point - and wrote down Secret lovers? Fraternization issues?.

Caleb couldn't help the smile as Claire replied in kind, honestly the fact that they could read each other so well to know when the other was still joking despite the seriousness of the words leaving them. Yeah it still sent a chill up his spine that they could do that.

He perched himself on the edge of bed, wanting - but knowing it wouldn't happen - Claire to step close to him. He really should have probably brought a mid morning snack or coffee down here, at least then that way he would have an excuse to touch her. Even if it was just a small touch of hands as he passed something over.

"Well," he began smiling brightly at her, he glanced down and then straight back up at her. It was the subtle of hints exactly what was playing on his mind right then, he was in a cheerful mood, an almost playful mood. Which although was probably not professional in the least, it was what he had woken up in and well with everything looming over them, he was prepared to just go with for a while. "I have this pain, it's very, very intense, needs expertease hands to look at it and I'd heard a rumour you had the best hands around."

He would have carried on the teasing, actually answered her question that she had asked, but he was distracted in a split second by someone commenting to the side of him. Caleb had been so wrapped up in getting a smile from Claire he hadn't even noticed the very young and attractive blonde on the opposite bed. A blonde that from the looks of it, had been watching them for a few seconds now, he realised he was going to have to pay more attention if he wanted to keep things private between himself and Claire.

The smile on his face seemed to almost get upped another notch, he glanced from Claire to the blonde woman, he knew that Claire knew what he was about to do, hell he couldn't help himself. It was someone new and it was a very pretty young woman, he subtly and quickly touched Claire's side, reassuring her that what he was going to say just meant he was being friendly. The touch was there and gone before anyone would have seen it.

"Very interesting indeed," he replied back, smiling at the blonde, "There not many blonde's on base and those that are, I know them all. You, you I don't know," he held out a hand, "Leading Rate Williams, but please everyone calls me Caleb."

Claire tried to keep her gaze, her stance, her words purely professional, but was unsure as to how successful she had been. While it was no longer a secret that she and Caleb were in a relationship, it still wasn't something that they flaunted out in the open. If someone asked, then sure, they would admit to it, but Claire and Caleb both refused to shove it down anyone's throat. What they had together was precious, and not something that she was willing to share willy-nilly.

The look in Caleb's eyes told her that he knew that, whatever they said to one another, it was just for show. Keep it light, vaguely professional, and let the undertones speak for themselves.

Shouldn't be too hard.

Of course, Caleb's little glance downwards took Claire by surprise, and she blinked, just the once, before recovering her professional composure and replying to his suggestive comment. "I think you might have me mixed up with someone else," she said, her voice sweet and quiet, her eyes flashing a deceptively innocent glance his way. "I'm a surgeon, not a 'well man' specialist." She held Caleb's gaze, just the merest flicker of a promise dancing through her eyes. They were leaving for Denver right after they finished their shifts that evening, and she was certain that they wouldn't be able to keep their hands off one another when they reached their hotel room. Surely they could wait those few hours?

As Caleb's head twitched to the side, Claire registered that the young woman Geraldine Chandler - had said something, and followed his gaze, frowning. It wasn't her comment that brought concern, more the fact that she had come back in with the Alpha Site team and wasn't yet being seen to. That was something that Claire would have to address.

Claire caught the look from Caleb, the one that told her that he was going to flirt like crazy with the blonde, and, despite the touch that was meant to reassure her, she swallowed down a bite of jealousy. She knew his generalised flirting meant nothing to him any more, but still... it was hard to watch sometimes, watching him teasing another woman.

Claire twitched an eyebrow up as Caleb introduced himself, rolling her eyes and taking a step away from him and towards Geraldine. "You mean Petty Officer Williams," she chuckled, shaking her head. "Still getting used to his promotion." She arched inquisitive eyebrows up at Geraldine. "You okay there? Nobody sorting you out yet?" She'd have to find out who had been assigned to the woman and deal to them later.
