Caiden West was born and raised in Beverly Hills, California. Caiden West comes from a family of Doctors, well Surgeons, his father being a world renowned plastic surgeon, and mother being a well known cardiothoracic surgeon. Caiden is a trauma surgeon and also flight surgeon trained, Caiden's twin sister Kelsey is also a Surgeon, a neurosurgeon.

Caiden went to private schools during his early years and he went to UCLA for college where he was pre-medicine and obtained a bachelors degree in biochemistry. Caiden is a nerd, but definitely doesn't act it, unless it comes to medical knowledge or anything about the human physiology. Caiden graduated in 2005 and in 2011 completed his residency and fellowship in Trauma Surgeon. Caiden stayed at Mass General Hospital for a year after he completed training before joining the Air Force. Caiden doesn't care much about ranks since he is a Medical Doctor and in the medical world he is an expert in his field. The medical professionals don't really take orders from superior officers if it is a medical matter, unless the chief medical officer says otherwise...

Caiden views himself as a Surgeon first, First Lieutenant in the USAF, second. Caiden is relatively new to the SGC and doesn't know many people, if any... Caiden is still young at heart and only 35, he likes to go out and enjoy himself every now and again as well as going to bars to drink a few.

Friends: Caiden has many friends around the country and world, but not many in the SGC or Colorado in general. Caiden can be a little flirty at work but its harmless flirting. Caiden doesn't care about rank or military and civilian world, he is friendly with everyone and friends with anyone who wants to be friends. Caiden has a few best friends all of which are doctors, some back in Boston and some around the country. Being a Surgeon he listens to people outside of the OR...

Enemies: Caiden doesn't have many enemies, that he knows of anyways. Friendly competition and competition in general could cause some professional hatred, considering Caiden usually wins, I think its more jealousy though rather than hate or causing enemies. Caiden is a cocky arrogant surgeon, but then again most surgeons are.

Lovers: Caiden doesn't go for love or relationships. Caiden was married once but Caiden doesn't himself marrying someone else again unless they're a doctor or a workaholic like he is. Caiden doesn't have much of an outside life or out of work life, so Caiden wouldn't be dating people outside of the Stargate Program. But in life you never know what's going to happen next, so who knows he could end up being married next month...

Well, you're semi correct about ranks. But as a surgeon, rather than a general practitioner, the point where your authority as a medical professional trumps the authority of an otherwise superior officer is going to be extremely narrow and specific. And it does nothing to absolve him of general military procedure, as it only excuses him from the chain of command when it protects the well being of a patient in a direct and definable way. So just try not to get yourself into trouble. /end Admin speech.

I have Sgt. Major David Taft (who, yes, can and will occasionally outrank Caiden). He's a lifer, been in the Marine Corp since he was legally allowed to be and even deferred college until after he had put in some time served. He knows plenty about the human body but he's mostly on the supply side of injuries, rather than a healer of any sort. The most likely way for them to meet is over a gunshot wound or other severe surgery requiring injury (most likely regarding his subordinates) or randomly in line at the mess hall, or some other very random encounter. Until a character is made specifically for the job, Taft also handles the command aspect of security on base. Not sure if that bit helps but there it is.

Hey Warlord, Caiden is aware about the rank, Caiden is a rebel but knows where the line is and where his authority ends.

I am looking forward to meeting in character Warlord, just hopefully its not with you being my patient, although that is more likely...

No NCO can outrank a commissioned officer... Which means no matter how long you were enlisted for, an officer O-1 and above will automatically outrank any E 1-9...

17 years of experience, most of it on a battlefield, means you'd be doing yourself a favor to not climb that hill.

True, but on the lines of who outranks who, a Sergeant Major doesn't outrank a Lieutenant.

There's "outranking", and there's "outranking".

While, on paper, a Lt would "outrank" a Sergeant Major, there's not a chance that someone with less than a handful of years of service would ever be successful if they tried to pull rank on said Sgt Major. The actual rank delineations start getting clearer up around the long serving Captain/Major ranks, and it is at that point where, even in the most practical of situations, the Sgt Major would be actually outranked by a commissioned officer. In the case of Caiden and Taft, the ONLY place where Caiden would have a prayer of successfully pulling rank on Taft would be the infirmary, when you look at it realistically.

Oh, and Caiden? Both threads you're in are waiting on posts from you before they can move on. ;)
