A career soldier and veteran NCO, Alex is still a relatively new face around the SGC, having only transferred in a few weeks prior to current events. Before this he served extensively in theatres throughout the Middle East as part of the Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SASR), although it was his recent work with US Special Forces on a joint venture that attracted the attention of the SG brass. More in-depth information can be found here.

Friends
Alex hasn't got many of these, truth be told. While he's outgoing and sociable by nature, he's never really formed close attachments outside of his unit. He's more likely to have acquaintances, friendly rivals, and drinking buddies more than anything. The type of people you wouldn't mind kicking back with, maybe watching a game, but not the sort you'd open up to. Those that do manage to earn his friendship, however, find him staunchly loyal and perhaps a little overly protective.

Enemies
Being as competitive as he is, Alex isn't stranger to racking up a few unfriendlies. His drive to push himself has, on several occasions, caused him to tread on a few toes, here and there. Combined with his stubborn streak, and odd predilection for pushing people's buttons, he can be quite an ass to deal with. He also has a habit of being a touch disrespectful towards officers, particularly those he feels would be better suited sitting behind a desk than in the field, and has been known to 'creatively reinterpret' orders at times. None of which earn him points.

Lovers
Yeaaaah, Alex is a trainwreck when it comes to serious relationships. Flirting and the odd casual encounter, that he can handle without too much trouble. But like, actual, meaningful relationships are beyond his expertise. Putting aside the fact that emotional displays just aren't his forte, he tends to be both clueless and tactless towards romance, with his longest relationship only lasting a matter of months before it ended in a particularly explosive fashion. But, hey, he's a demolitions expert. He likes playing with things that blow up in his face.

I have a pair of civvies to toss at you: Claire Te Atua, an emergency surgeon, and Ruth Tolliver, a linguist.

Claire's usually to be found in the infirmary, and is your typical Kiwi - laid back and straight to the point. Perhaps some friendly Aussie/Kiwi rivalry going on here? She has a good sense of humour, but if you're an arrogant arse, she'll tell you so, and no bones about it!

Ruth, however, is a different kettle of fish. She's a bit of a sweetheart, and likes to see the good in everybody. However, this can lead to her being seen as naive. Couldn't be further from the truth, though - she's fiercely intelligent, and is a gifted linguist. She just doesn't go around boasting about it. I think friends of a sort is probably as far as these two would go.

Claire Te Atua - Oh, I have a feeling she'll be calling him on a thing or two, then, it's just a matter of time. While not outright arrogant, his competitive streak causes him to definitely skirt the line on occasion, and that aussie/kiwi rivalry might heighten it. That said, I would imagine he would respect her for it as he admires the straight shooter type attitude. Since it hasn't been long since he joined the SGC, perhaps a routine medical in his future? Maybe before going on to be properly assigned to SG-2? I dunno.

Ruth Tolliver - Off the top of my head I can potentially see Alex going to her for tips on Goa'uld, since it's always handy from a reconnaissance point of view if you understand, even at a basic level, what is essentially the lingua franca of the galaxy. But, yeah, I'm definitely down for a tentative friendship in the cards. He would definitely be more comfortable with the fact she's a tomboy, so I'd wager he'll quickly fall into treating her like one of the lads.

I have Caleb to throw into the mix at you, maybe as drinking buddies? Caleb always willing to buy the last and first round if needs be, don't know where they'd meet exactly, Caleb is more engineer than soldier. But he'd be willing to be a drinking partner leading to a kind of friend if you want?

I'm definitely down for some drinking buddy action. In the interest of giving you a fair warning, however, Alex likely take full advantage of the prospect of a free first and last round. Probably throwing a few extra ones in between, too.

They could have possibly met on assignment, a general escort the engineer sorta deal that sparks a friendship between them, or maybe they met through a briefing. Admittedly there's not a huge overlap with Alex's specialties, but there's always a chance that Caleb's technical expertise is required when blowing something up? I dunno, I'm totally open to whatever.

Hell, they could be gym buddies.

These two are both Sergeants and, though not at the same level, they both seem to have similar pedigrees in so far as the Special Recon and Counter Terrorism goes. Scary thought, David Taft is what Alex Sullivan is going to be in about a decade. Rough, worn, busted up, and terrifying.

You’re right, that’s definitely a scary thought. Probably not that inaccurate, either, although I’m pretty sure those two divorces under Taft’s belt likely accelerated the rough, worn, busted up and terrifying aspect.

That said, what with the similar backgrounds and all, I’d definitely say Alex has a hefty deal of respect for Taft. Maybe not a great deal per se, but that would largely be because they haven’t been in the field together yet, so he hasn’t gotten a real feel for him. At the moment the respect is mostly afforded to him for the rank, experience and dedication to the job. Not to mention a certain amount of brotherhood that comes from being senior NCO lifers and having to ‘babysit’ not only the enlisted but occasionally the officers, too. He shares your pain.

Lol, I quite like the sound of that, not that Caleb would ever condone having to blow something up of course. But agreed I don't think their specialities would cross over that much, drinking buddies sounds fun or yeah gym buddies, although don't expect to see Caleb down at the gym all that much.

Would it help if I promised to only use my powers of explosives wisely? I likely won't, but I'm willing to make that empty pledge if it'll salve your conscience. I'm giving like that.

But drinking buddies definitely sounds fun, I have a feeling we'll have plenty of missions to unwind from in the days to come, so it'll great just to have some threads to shoot the breeze in.

Yeah, I figured they'd have a basic understanding of each other based on the shared career arcs and with him being one of the meanest products the US Marine Corp turns out (Marine Raiders) they'd be polite toward one another.

And yes, when asked to list his scars and surgeries he always notes both Divorces as wounded in battle.
